Hi GREAT users,

The Bejerano lab is looking to hire a functional genomics experimentalist. The job description, available at http://devbio.stanford.edu/about/employment.html, is reproduced below. If you know any qualified people who are not on the mailing list please feel free to forward the message widely.

Thanks,
The Bejerano Lab

Life Science Research Associate - Functional Genomics (Stanford Job #41124)

The Bejerano lab (http://bejerano.stanford.edu/) is shared between Stanford’s Medical School Department of Developmental Biology, and the School of Engineering Computer Science Department. The lab is engaged in many exciting research projects studying how the genome regulates gene expression in the context of vertebrate development, recent human evolution and human disease. We are seeking a highly skilled life sciences research associate (LSRA) to advance our understanding of the genome by performing medium and high throughput transcription regulation experiments to augment and empower our computational and experimental capabilities. The incumbent will also interpret the results of these experiments to execute the next phase of laboratory experimentation, which often includes working with outside collaborators.

Summary of Responsibilities:
Under the general supervision of the PI and wet lab head, the selected candidate will design and execute medium and high throughput experiments, specifically: ChIP-Seq, gel shift and transfection assays using primary tissues to augment, explore and verify predictions generated by our research group. The LSRA is responsible for assigned research projects, and will independently carry out techniques to completion. Originality is required in modifying, verifying, or adapting standard research procedures to meet specific research needs. The LSRA will work with the Bejerano laboratory to interpret the results and suggest further steps in their exploration. He/She will also participate in communicating these results to the scientific community through presentations at meetings and publications in scientific journals, and in applications and reports to funding agencies.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
• ChIP-Seq, gel shift and transfection assays using primary tissues.
• Interface and communicate clearly with computational biologists and molecular specialists in all phases of assigned projects, from experimental design and planning to reporting of results and suggestions for future work
• Consult the scientific literature routinely to understand and make use of relevant published techniques and methods
• Identify flaws in experimental techniques or instrument operation and troubleshoot to overcome them
• Prepare written text on experimental protocols, procedures, and results, both in detailed and abstract formats.
• Help guide other lab members in mastering new techniques and in experimental design and analysis.
• Identify needed supplies and reagents, working within the Developmental Biology department purchasing mechanism

Qualifications:
• Four-year degree in Biological Sciences with at least 5 years of experience working in a research environment is required. Ph.D. preferred.
• Proficiency in molecular biology methods such as PCR technologies, cloning, tissue culture, RNA isolation and transfection are required. Must also be experienced with immunological techniques such as immunoprecipitation and immunohistochemistry .
• This individual must possess the ability to use initiative, have judgment and be able to interpret results. The ability to plan, conduct & modify experiments is required.
• The incumbent must be well-organized and able to work independently in a collaborative environment.
