The Bejerano lab (http://bejerano.stanford.edu/) is shared between
Stanford's Computer Science Department and the Department of
Developmental Biology. The Lab studies the functional landscape of the
human genome, its contribution to human disease, and its evolution. As
part of its research, the lab designs and builds unique computational
tools, such as the recently launched http://great.stanford.edu. We seek
a talented and highly motivated web programmer to join our vibrant and
highly capable team and expand our web facing tools in exciting new
directions.

Summary of Responsibilities: (1) Design, develop, document and maintain
mostly novel and existing web facing database and other tools, to help
revolutionize science's understanding of the human genome. (2) Write
small monitoring tools to keep track of the state of our system and
resources, and help us interact with our system administrators and
consultants. (3) Maintain and enhance group adoption of use of tools
including subversion and git, MySQL, Wikimedia and similar resources.

Qualifications: BA or BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or
equivalent experience. Two years work experience or more. Web
programming experience (php, MySQL, javascript) in a UNIX/Linux C-based
environment (knowledge of YUI and python a plus). Knowledgeable in
database design, design patterns, and web development. Strong verbal and
written communications skills. Knowledge of bioinformatics methods and
applications or a strong desire to learn them (a year of college biology
education a plus). Ability to quickly grasp new concepts and integrate
them into projects as appropriate. Ability to think on one's feet.
Ability to help set and meet software development deadlines. Ability to
work well in a team environment.
